Single Mama Tales It All

Trying something new pays off

Posted by: SingleMamaTalesItAll on: October 6, 2011

This post is long  been over due. A while ago, I was able to review some coconut oil.  Coconut oil was something I had not, had the privilege of using in anything I cooked. I was excited to put my infamous a little dash of this, my dash of that, to the test with Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil.

I immediately loved how it looked.

Call me weird but it looked like a creamy coconut butter that was waiting to slathered all over some hot biscuits or croissants. It smelled delicious and I was hungry. Yes I tasted it right out the jar and it wasnt bad at all. However, I refrained from attacking it and let my mind think on what I was going to create with it.  Before I started cooking I took the time to how and why Tropical Traditions carry the Gold Label Standard. Please read it about it for yourself right here.  So after looking at some chicken and shrimp I decided on a shrimp stir fry. I like coconut shrimp so why not create a stir fry. My creation turned out wonderful. The coconut flavor was mild and not overbearing to the shrimp, garlic seasoning and veggies. What I really liked is I only used 3 tablespoons of coconut oil. It coated the pan nicely. The shrimp mixture was atop hot rice and spinach. It was a big hit in the house.  Now I’m hooked. It’s also a plus knowing the “coconuts are used fresh (within 24-48 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw and other rural places in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines.”

I knew that I would want to make a lot more with the coconut oil. How happy was I see Tropical Traditions has tons of recipes. Be sure to pay a visit to Coconut Recipes. There were so many to choose from. I think I clicked them all, and I have added “try every recipe I saw” to my bucket list of things to do. Finally after much back and forth I tried Coconut Fruit Smoothie and it was so good. Very filling for breakfast, snack, basically in my opinion I would have one of those smoothies anytime of the day. Just about all the recipes are easily adjusted to your taste.  This definitely a keeper in my house. Tropical Traditions carry many more items other than coconut oil that I definitely want to try. So be sure to check them out. You wont be disappointed.

I use coconut oil for many things — in my hair to seal in moisture after I apply leave-in conditioner. I use it on my skin as a facial moisturizer, body as a lotion. I eat it plain sometimes, I cook with it, I put it in smoothies, I put in tea, on top of rice, etc. I also love the Tropical Traditions brand as well, and love all of the recipes on their site!

I didn’t think about the hair. Excellent idea. I will give that a try over the weekend.
